Hario V60 pour-over coffee ratio
The V60 drains fast, so grind size and pouring speed matter as much as ratio. 1:16 gives a balanced cup. A lower number (1:15) is stronger, a higher one (1:17) is lighter and more tea-like.
Change any field and the others update. Typical range for V60: 1:14 to 1:18.

The numbers
- Starting ratio
- 1:16
- Usual range
- 1:14 to 1:18
- Grind
- Medium-fine, a bit finer than table salt
- Water temperature
- 92–96 °C (198–205 °F)
- Brew time
- 2:30–3:30 total
- Example
- One 300 ml mug takes about 19 g of coffee at 1:16.
Steps
- Rinse the paper filter with hot water and discard the rinse water.
- Add the coffee, level the bed, and start the timer.
- Pour twice the coffee weight in water (40 ml for 20 g) and let it bloom for 30–45 seconds.
- Pour the rest in slow circles in two or three pours, finishing around 2:30–3:30.
Tips
- Draining faster than 2:30 usually means the grind is too coarse. Slower than 4:00 means too fine.
- Change one thing at a time: ratio first, then grind.
